چکیده
We present a black-box style rejection method that is valid for generating random variables with any log-concave density, provided that one knows a mode of the density, which is known only up to a constant factor.

A Note on Log-Concavity
This is a small observation concerning scale mixtures and their log-concavity. A function f(x) ≥ 0, x ∈ Rn is called log-concave if f (λx + (1− λ)y) ≥ f(x)f(y) (1) for all x,y ∈ Rn, λ ∈ [0, 1]. Log-concavity is important in applied Bayesian Statistics, since a distribution with a log-concave density is easy to treat with many different approximate inference techniques. For example, log-concavit...

Preservation of increasing and decre...
متن کاملPreservation of log-concavity on summation
We extend Hoggar’s result that the sum of two independent discrete-valued log-concave random variables is itself log-concave. Firstly, we weaken the assumption of independence, and introduce conditions under which the result still holds for dependent variables. Secondly, we introduce a wider class of random variables such that in the independent case the sum is still log-concave, and prove simp...
متن کاملOptimal Concentration of Information Content For Log-Concave Densities
An elementary proof is provided of sharp bounds for the varentropy of random vectors with log-concave densities, as well as for deviations of the information content from its mean. These bounds significantly improve on the bounds obtained by Bobkov and Madiman (Ann. Probab., 39(4):1528–1543, 2011). Mathematics Subject Classification (2010). متن کاملGLOBAL RATES OF CONVERGENCE OF THE MLES OF LOG-CONCAVE AND s-CONCAVE DENSITIES BY CHARLES R. DOSS
R d is log-concave if p = e where φ :Rd → [−∞,∞) is concave. We denote the class of all such densities p on R by Pd,0. Log-concave densities are always unimodal and have convex level sets. Furthermore, log-concavity is preserved under marginalization and convolution. Thus, the classes of log-concave densities can be viewed as natural nonparametric extensions of the class of Gaussian densities. ...
